New employees from abroad? Hopefully the new immigration law will now make it easier
Berlin, December 19, 2018 - The new immigration law has been passed by the Federal Cabinet: The aim is to facilitate the influx of skilled workers from abroad. It remains to be seen how this affects everyday work. Unskilled migrant workers are also welcome in the hotel and catering sector, which is plagued by precarious staff shortages.

Around 56 percent, and thus more than half of German companies, are generally open to hiring specialists from outside the EU. This emerges from a special evaluation of the current economic survey of the German Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DIHK), which is based on 20,000 company responses. It is available from the Düsseldorf "Rheinischen Post". According to this, around half of the companies surveyed are currently unable to fill vacancies. Of these, two thirds are even interested in recruiting specialists from third countries.
The survey shows how desirable the planned skilled labor immigration law is in the economy. According to the companies, the measures basically went in the right direction, according to the DIHK. In particular, it is welcomed that the government is finally focusing more on the immigration of qualified professionals and no longer only on academics. The creation of a central immigration office for each federal state is also applauded. From the company's perspective, the most important support by far is the improvement of language offers in Germany and abroad. This is the most important measure for 53 percent of the companies. In second place was to facilitate the administrative procedures for the immigration of skilled workers. The quick issue of visas abroad, the residence permit, the labor market approval and the recognition of professional qualifications are very important for 41 percent of the companies. In contrast, better immigration regulations, such as the abolition of the priority check, would only be in the foreground for about every fourth company.
